A box to a wood turner is usually under 3 inches in diameter made to hold small keepsakes, rings, earrings etc. The lid can be loose fitting or what we call a piston or suction fit requiring two hands to remove. This type of fit demonstrates the wood turner’s skill but sometimes impractical depending on the use intended for the box.

I don’t make a lot of boxes because they require the use of dry wood. I prefer to turn wet wood as it is readily available. If wet wood is used they will change shape and lid will not fit.
